Retrospectively 5 – that library thang, oops, thing

December 4, 2009 at 2:20 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment

Library Thing should be wonderful to a book worm like myself, but alas it failed to light my fire. Maybe because the training room computers were playing up the day we subscribed. Maybe, when I have more time, I shall revisit this application and explore and play.

such a cute little worm

Retrospectively 4 – oh how perfectly Delicious

December 4, 2009 at 2:15 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment

And now the second of my two favourite things from 23 Things – Delicious – the best way I know to keep track of my bookmarks/favourites. I have wholeheartedly embraced Delicious and love that I can save webpages as favourites and access them from any computer anywhere in the world. The feature is now used daily (yes, even on Saturdays and Sundays good folks).

This is also rather delicious

Retrospectively 3 – RSS feeds, and yes I know what the acronym stands for

December 4, 2009 at 2:09 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | 1 Comment

Out of all the things on offer with 23 Things one of two things I like best are RSS feeds. My favourtie at the moment is the Design Files which feature posts by a young lass named Lucy living in Melbourne. The URL is here for anyone interested http://www.thedesignfiles.net/ . Lucy writes daily about interesting things happening in the world and particularly Melbourne in regards to design, she is enthusiastic and very interesting to read.

Retrospectively 2 – that gmail & webmail

December 4, 2009 at 2:03 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment

I now am the proud owner of four email accounts, what more could a girl ask for. There is the work account, bigpond account and now I have a gmail and yahoo account as well thanks to 23 Things. Gmail is proving useful for those times when I am required to supply an email address but really don’t want to – so can say, here, have my gmail account. I have gmail set up as a gadget on my igoogle page.

Please Mr. Postman

Retrospectively 1 – my thoughts on lifelong learning

December 4, 2009 at 1:54 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment

Well, here goes….lifelong learning – something I embrace wholeheartedly, so much so that I wish there was another me (just like the Barbara Streisand song) just so I could fit more into each day. The world is such and interesting exciting place and there is an impossible amount of information waiting to be absorbed by the willing, I want to be one of those, a big participator in life.

Challenging the mind with new tasks, ideas and experiences helps it to grow and stay young at the same time. It also makes life a lot more interesting and rewarding. Am so pleased I had the chance to add 23 things to my lifelong learning process.

And now, so this post is not too dull, one of my favourite songs by the band ‘The Cloud Room’

Facebook – shall I or shall I not

November 27, 2009 at 2:44 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment

I created a facebook account about a year ago for quite voyeuristic reasons – my baby sister (who lives in England) had just started dating a lovely guy named Chris and I wanted to see what he looked like. Chris and Simone are still together and put up lots of great photos on Facebook – I feel I am close to them even though they are in England and I am in Australia. A lot of my family members are now on facebook and it is a great way of keeping in touch with what is happening in there lives – such as, as of Sunday I am now a great aunt – I have not met my great niece Sierra but thanks to facebook I have seen some beautiful photos of her.

So Sad So Sad…We’ll meet again, don’t know where don’t know when……

Goodbye 23 Things and all my fellow participants

And so we are at week 23 of 23 Things. I have really enjoyed my classes and the Practically Perfect Programmer has been a delight to work with. I am very lucky to work in IRAM when doing the program as do not have the same restrictions as those on desk shifts. Also I am surrounded by others doing 23 Things and we have all had lots of fun together, learning of course!
My favourites things have been iGoogle, RSS feeds, Delicious and very surprisingly for me, the good old tweeting – it has really taken off in IRAM. I have subscribed to many great design sites and really look forward to their blogs in the morning that I receive via RSS feeds. I have set up my iGoogle to have the Google reader gadget and Twitter gadget. I have also put in a language translator that is handy for when cataloguing foreign language books. Also have the ABC and The Australian news updates showing on my page – just love it all.
I feel a lot more confident and aware of what can be done with computer technology, and am more willing to embrace (or at least try) new things that come along.

let the games begin…

November 27, 2009 at 2:01 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | 1 Comment

Today we are playing computer games…..a time eater of those precious hours in a day. They can be fun and maybe good to fill in time sometimes, but then I always have a book on hand to fill in those moments…and I like books. Amy did get me using a little physics inspired game and I quite liked that, had to use the brain to work out a problem, could most likely get into this. Must admit that a little partial to the Galaga game at the Luna Leederville coffee lounge –  (hmm, or is it Space Invaders).

And now a bizarre picture, do people really quilt game designs? Here is a Galaga quilt.

SlideShare – what is in this slide show?

November 4, 2009 at 11:16 am | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment

Now I have discovered how to share my very important slide shows with the general public. This can be very useful if unsure what software others have, as all we need is access to the internet.

This slide show is the generic one given, I may have time to substitute it with something original by me.

YouTube – scary movie

November 4, 2009 at 10:22 am | Posted in Uncategorized | 1 Comment

So now I will be able to make videos and share them with the world (or 25 close friends) if I so choose. This could be fun, maybe a good way to share home videos with family members.
