Podcasts in iTunes

So it seems IT have been kind enough to let us access podcasts from iTunes university. I have looked at Standford on iTunes and am currently listening to Chris Ayer, a singer/songwriter, who graduated from Stanford in 2004. His music is a bit twee but I think I am in the mood to listen to a sweet lad singing sweet music. It is interesting downloading the podcasts that explain the meaning behind each song he sings.

I have downloaded quite a few BBC podcasts on my iTunes at home and then transferred them to my ipod – handy when one is doing mind numbing jobs such as shelf reading. Do like book review shows, especially when an author is being interviewed.

8 weeks to go until New Zealand

So, the final payment was made on Friday and now all I have to do is to get training, get fit for those mountains in New Zealand. My friend Jane and I are doing an 8 day trek (or in NZ speak, tramp) in Mount Aspiring National Park known as the Gillespie-Rabbit Pass – we jet boat up Lake Wanaka to the start of the trek and then spend 8 days walking back out – and of course we had to choose the walk rated ‘challenging’.

A beautiful picture, really no need to explain why we chose the South Island.

Thought I would add a good band playing the piece of music that we had to sight read at band last night – we took it a lot slower and I think I do recognise some of the bits from this. Took a copy for a bit of home practice, an unheard phrase in my house but about time some was done.

Not so sure about ImageGenerators yet, need some more time to play I think. But this is a great photo that my friend Joe took when we were walking on the Bibbulmun track – an old tree that really looks like an old mans face.

The World of Flickr (no, not a horse)

I like Flickr – I currently have a lot of photos stored in My Documents at work, and had been wondering the best way to get them on my home computer. And now I have the answer – just copied every photo on to the Flickr website – still a lot of fine tuning to do, think there may be some duplicates that will have to be deleted – and maybe I don’t want so many photos of the ex on display. Shall all be tackled at a later date.

Creating a wiki page

September 30, 2009 at 11:58 am | Posted in Uncategorized | 1 Comment

Today I learnt that it really is not so hard to create a Wiki page, as to whether someone wants to read the content is another issue. I can see that it will be very handy when planning the family Christmas lunch, may have to get the sisters organised.

Tis all quite and peaceful in this household, a most unusual occurrence but a most welcome one – listening to the dulcet tones of the presenter on ABC Radio National, a music segment talking about improvisation and composition, very interesting.
It is my grandmothers 91st birthday party tomorrow and have been allocated the food I need to prepare, Mama has commanded that an orange syrup cake be made, and at 91 we tend to bow to our matriarchs commands.
Have been listening to the new Muse album being played on JJJ, am rather a fan. Found the interview below on the NME.com site and have now added them to my RSS reader. Am a little worried about the amount of information that is now coming my way – will have to learn to filter it a bit as at the moment feel obligated to read everything. Of course my fellow 23 Things participants blogs will be mandatory reading.

In a round about way found this band called Library Science and of course, working in a library just had to have a listen – do like new and interesting things, think this classifys as such.

Winter has finally gone and Spring is here, so good

September 8, 2009 at 9:04 am | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment

Am so pleased that Winter has finally ended and the long sunny days are the thing to look forward to now. Will be back at Cottesloe beach tomorrow, 6.30am, for a swim with my friends followed by a ‘lovely’ cold shower in the amenities block – thank goodness for the latte at the Blue Duck after as my reward.

Have been trying to work out what music events to attend this summer – there are so many on and the cost can get out of hand. The main interest items are:

  • Escape to the Park: Paul Kelly as the headline act supported by Augie March and Clare Bowdith – a warm afternoon/evening at Kings Park, would be lovely
  • South Bound Music Festival: Grizzly Bear, Moby, Hilltop Hoods etc – a few acts I really want to see but not sure about the logistics of getting there – and tickets so expensive
  • Panics at Kings Park in February: my friend who lives in Melbourne was at a party with Jae (leader singer), and he said they had been asked to play with WASO at kings park – there sound would compliment the orchestra beautifully, has to be an absolute definite to attend.

This is a picture of my sweet but very needy dog Bailey, so I can experiment with uploading photos in my blog.
